Fred Allen ('61) - Board Member

Mr. Allen is one of the premier real estate and finance attorneys in America. He is a Founder and the Senior Partner of Allen Matkins. For 40 years, he has been counsel to many of the nation's most prominent development and investment companies in connection with hundreds of successful major projects in California, Hawaii, and throughout the country.

Mr. Allen represents real estate owners, developers, institutional investors, lenders, pension fund advisors, contractors, and asset management companies with respect to a wide range of projects, including the acquisition, financing, development, leasing, management and sale of office buildings, industrial parks, shopping centers, mixed-use projects, residential development, hotels, resorts, and golf course projects.

Numerous professional publications and periodicals, including national and statewide surveys of attorneys and business leaders, have repeatedly recognized his leadership in real estate and finance, including every edition of The Best Lawyers in America. He has been recognized annually by Southern California Super Lawyers in real estate, and has also been included among the Top 100 "Super Lawyers." In 2006, Mr. Allen received the "Outstanding Real Estate Lawyer" award from the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

A member of the American, California, and Los Angeles County Bar Associations, Mr. Allen also served as chair of the Commercial and Industrial Development Subsection of the State Bar of California and the vice chair of the Real Property Section Executive Committee. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the Real Estate Roundtable in Washington D.C. He is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Mr. Allen also is active in numerous professional, civic, and charitable organizations. He is a frequent writer and speaker on real estate and finance issues.

After graduating from Stanford University in 1961, Mr. Allen served as a naval officer aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Ranger (CVA-61). He received his J.D. from the University of California Hastings.
