Sam Freshman ('56) - Chairman of the Board
Mr. Freshman is Chairman of the Board and President of the Los Angeles based Standard Management Company, which is involved in real estate acquisitions, structuring and finance, and property management. Active in real estate investment and development for 50 years as both an attorney and a licensed real estate broker, Mr. Freshman believes in the power of networking and is eager to lend his experience to SPIRE members and Stanford alums.
Mr. Freshman has had many diverse experiences related to real estate throughout his storied career, including being qualified as an expert witness in real estate legal matters and finance, a lecturer at the Stanford Law and Business Schools, and Chairman of a bank and retail companies. He describes the various recessions he has witnessed throughout his life as particularly influential, and stresses the importance of patience and watching for the right opportunities. Author of several books and over 20 published articles, Mr. Freshman is currently working on a new series of books on saving entitled "The Smartest Ways to Save", and "The Smartest Ways to Save More", about how you can become rich on a modest income. Mr. Freshman received both his undergraduate and J.D. degrees from Stanford.
