It was a stormy night in New York but that didn't deter SPIRE members and guests from making their way to the Walker Hotel Greenwich Village for a wonderful tour and talk led by Atit Jariwala (MBA ’12), Chief Executive Officer of Bridgeton Holdings. Atit greeted everyone with a smile and a glass of wine in the lobby of his attractive hotel, which was a nice welcome for a chilly, slushy night.

As soon as everyone was assembled, Atit gave us some insight into his background in hotel investments and operations, and talked to us about his company, Bridgeton Holdings, and some of their properties. Atit addressed how speed-to-market with new and differentiated customer programming has created a defensible niche for boutique hotel operators, despite consolidation of a few dominant hospitality branding corporations. He also talked about how consistent brands are losing ground to creative boutiques, as “Instagrammability” and unique experiences take center stage in driving customer advocacy.

We then embarked on a tour of the handsome 113-room boutique property, the Walker Hotel Greenwich Village, that is nestled in one of New York's most historic neighborhoods. The design aesthetic was inspired by the legendary 1920’s French Deco artisan Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann and the rooms are tricked out with high-end Frette linens and locally sourced minibars. Some rooms come with wrap-around terraces and those on the 10th floor and higher have jaw-dropping skyline views. This boutique gem is part of the growing portfolio of Bridgeton Holdings, a vertically integrated investor, owner, developer and manager of commercial and residential real estate. They invest in a range of real estate asset classes, including office, retail, hospitality and residential properties.

After the tour, the group continued the discussion over a tapas-style dinner a private room at Alta, a village gem serving mediterranean inspired locally sourced cuisine in a charming, cosy 19th century townhouse. It was the perfect ending to a rather magical evening.
