Cityline Sunnyvale, downtown Sunnyvale

Date and Time

Tuesday, March 6 2018 - 6 PM

Event Details

Join SPIRE on Tuesday, March 6th, for a presentation on, and tour of, the long-awaited, now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t redevelopment of Sunnyvale Town Center. This project, with a colorful past, is now underway and will be presenting itself as CityLine Sunnyvale, welcoming a new era for the historic downtown district. The tour will include a visit to retail and apartments which will be completed by the end of the year. Progress halted on this project nearly ten years ago - which brings a number of challenges to the project. Learn more about them, and how they were overcome, on March 6.

The California Supreme Court’s action in August 2015 ended the litigation that has stalled the Town Center project for years. This cleared the way for the previous owner, Wells Fargo Bank, to sell the 35-acre site to a new developer. The Town Center’s new owner, STC Venture, LLC, is a joint venture formed by J.P. Morgan Asset Management, Hunter Properties, Inc., and Sares Regis Group of Northern California.

The developers express confidence that the $100 million, 36-acre project — crucial to existing businesses in the immediate area and important to the city of Sunnyvale as a whole — will be completed, this time, with no more surprises.

Phase 1 of the project is currently under construction and will include 198 residential units, above-ground-floor retail, a new Whole Foods and AMC Theaters, and a variety of infrastructure improvements. Phase 2 includes 94 additional residential units on the south side of the project; while Phase 3 contemplates hundreds of residential units over-ground-floor retail, and two additional office buildings.

SPIRE is partnering with Sares Regis and welcomes our expert hosts: Dave N.P. Hopkins - Senior Vice President, Sares Regis, Kevin Choy - Project Manager, Development, Sares Regis, Travis Duncan (MS '15, MBA '17) Project Manager, Development, Sares Regis and Meris Ota (MS '04) - VP, Commercial Division, Sares Regis. The Sares Regis team will share the history, on-going construction, and future projects in Cityline Sunnyvale; as well as other projects ongoing and/or recently completed in the city of Sunnyvale.

We hope you are able to join us for an evening at this storied site, followed by drinks and heavy appetizers at The Oxford on S. Murphy Avenue, in downtown Sunnyvale. Please know that the Caltrain, Sunnyvale Station (Zone 3), drops off at a walkable distance.

This event is open to all SPIRE members.
