Event Details

On October 24, SPIRE members were able to get an early look at the future home of the - Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) - Banc of California Stadium. LAFC is building a 22,000-seat soccer-specific stadium, bringing $350 million in private investment to South Los Angeles. SPIRE members walked the walk like the players, including stepping onto the 86,000 sq. ft of natural bermuda grass that makes up the playing field and strolled through the locker rooms of the first open-air stadium built in the city since 1962.

Everyone put on hard hats for the top-to-bottom tour of this construction site which included special access to the Founder's Club Level, the concessions and security spaces, the nightclub and more premium spaces. They learned that 5 million pounds of steel will go into the construction of the LEED Silver certified stadium building that boasts 140,000 sq. ft. of improved public open space. Opening in 2018, the Banc of California Stadium is so much more than a stadium and SPIRE members got to see why. Stadium ownership includes Stanford's own Goodwin Gaw (MS '94), Kirk Lacob ('10), Mark Leschly (MBA '95) and Jason Sugarman ('94).

The tour ended up in the stadium's mock-up yard where members had the opportunity to view raw and finished forms of the stadium design and ask questions of the LAFC Leadership Team. Everyone enjoyed seeing the work the LAFC is doing to develop a world-class, forward-thinking sports organization to bring the fastest growing professional sport, soccer, in America to one of the largest and most diverse markets in the world, Los Angeles.

After the tour, the group walked to the nearby Lab Gastropub for gourmet comfort food and beverages on the patio. We were fortunate to have some Fall ULI Conference attendees, who happened to be in the Los Angeles area, join us for the evening.
